#UNTITLED

November 15, 2017 by Lada

Introduce yourself:

Heyyy heyyy I'm Kat! I'm 20 years old, I love writing music and poetry, playing basketball, smoking weed and sleeping. Interesting fact about me: I'm a complete introvert.

What is untitled? What or who inspired you to do entitled?

#Untitled is the foundation and platform for creatives to display/showcase their craft. What inspired it was my friends. The designers needing models for photoshoots, the photographers friends needing models, the rappers/singers wanting a place to perform and gain more exposure. Being the "bridge" and connecting creatives is the major goal and the true inspiration for the Arts & Entertainment factor of #Untitled. We're starting to expand within the colleges and working towards uniting the colleges through creativity for greater execution. Tired of hearing "there's nothing upstate for creatives/students" to do, we want to be that change and make things happen for creatives/students.

How has the experience been thus far? (consider planning events, networking, organization, scheduling, etc?)

Honestly, it's been a learning experience. From day 1 to now, I'll still be learning tomorrow and after that. Being that I graduation from Mission Accomplished transition services (shout out to CARMEN DUNCAN!!!), I seen things differently and was way more cautious of the moves I'd make and how I'd make them. I changed how I dressed n I had to get out of my introvert ways when it came to networking at mixers/networking events. We were very unorganized when It came to meetings, so I decided to start making agendas so we can stay on topic when we had meetings and had a flow of our discussion (something I learned doing the program). I learned to be proactive and to take initiative, something very very necessary when working with a group; otherwise everyone's just sorta waiting around versus someone taking the lead. In terms of event planning, usually there's a vision that is created, and from there we do everything in our power to bring it to life, examples are our soft and hard Launch.

Were you nervous or afraid to present Untitled? Any set backs? Specific triumphant moment?

I was. For one, there's 3 elements of #Untitled.. community, connecting college students, and arts & entertainment. Right now the arts & entertainment branch is the most popular and that's the department I created. I was nervous at first because when I started Mission Accomplished I had to narrow all of the elements into one, which was so complicated to put into words, let alone an elevator pitch. So I just focused on arts & entertainment to get the flow and foundation started, to then branch off into connecting creative college students to then being mentors in the community for younger students. The one setback which we recently just came back from was the team not being aware of the way I seen #Untitled and why I pushed so hard for things and why I strategized it that way. I have a hard time communicating my ideas so when the actions are presented, it looks like it's a "me" thing versus a Team thing.

What has this project meant for you as a whole?

It means everything to me. My father used to draw, host fashion shows, did photography and was an overall creative person. He's very sick now and his creativity inspired me to personally have a field in the arts. Before he had gotten sick I told him my dreams of starting a record label. I started dreaming bigger and created #Untitled with that same intention but instead of limiting it to a record label, we decided to to create an entire platform for ALL creatives. On top of musicians, let's get some painters on board, let's get photographers at our events, lets highlight these artists that sketch and draw. Creativity shouldn't be limited. We almost called it #Unlimited. Untitled just clicked for all three of us though (Akiva, Kilijah & myself). It means the world to me to see people actually support the vision and be apart of the vision. It means everything to me to receive the same energy n love I put into this so I'm not going ever stop. We've just begun!

Anything about you (gender, age, sexuality, religious/spiritual affiliation, etc.) that has been an asset to your success?

I'm openly bisexual. I legit like boys n girls, I can't get enough of both lol. I would say I'm Christian? I use the Bible to guide me, not in any ties to the religion but the words of wisdom n knowledge presented in that book. "Be still and know that I am God" is one of my favorites. When there's so much going on, school: tests, quizzes, assignments; relationship: arguments, being emotionally drained; work, etc sometimes you have to be still and call on God. This was me in 2015, entering 2016. I didn't know where to go, what to do next, my father was getting sick, my grades were dropping to a GPA of 1.4.. I one night talked to God and asked him to align me with the people I need to be around to help me get out of whatever it is that I'm in. Sure enough I met akiva and kilijah and #Untitled was born.

Reflect on the importance of following your vision and making it come to fruition?

It's sooooo important to stay true to yourself. No matter how long it takes, or how many times you fail, get back up. No one but YOU can stop YOU, so NEVER let anything get in YOUR way. That's what keeps me going.

What else are you passionate about?

Music. I want to turn the poetry I write into songs and really get into the craft of songwriting once I perfect poetry. But I've been so focused on #untitled as a whole, I haven't been able to focus on my personal passions outside of the general passion of arts & entertainment. Coming soon though! Just started writing again as of September 27th!

Advice for young creatives who are still finding themselves?

Follow your gut. It's so cliche but it's sooo true. Your gut is the way you stay true to yourself. Eliminate group think as a way to move bc you start moving like the group instead of moving like yourself. Unless it's helping you grow for the better.
